Uganda To Pass 'Kill Gays' Law by 2013

Rebecca Kadaga, the speaker of Uganda's parliament says an anti-homosexual bill will be passed before the end of 2012. While the draft was met with international condemnation, with US President Barack Obama calling it ‘odious’ , the move was met with overwhelming local support.

The law will broaden the criminalization of same-sex relationships by dividing homosexuality into two categories; aggravated homosexuality and the offense of homosexuality.

‘Aggravated homosexuality’ is defined as gay acts committed by parents or authority figures, HIV-positive people, pedophiles and repeat offenders. If convicted, they will face the death penalty.

The ‘offense of homosexuality’ includes same-sex sexual acts or being in a gay relationship, and will be prosecuted by life imprisonment.

The speaker said she promised to pass the law to a group of activists who called on the move before 2013 as a ‘Christmas gift’.

You may remember that earlier last year, human rights advocate David Kato was found bludgeoned to death after Rolling Stone (unaffiliated with the US. Magazine) published an article on Uganda’s Top 100 Gays and Lesbian; listing their names, photos and addresses with text reading ‘hang them’.

Uganda, a largely Evangelical Christian nation (a direct result of American Christian Evangelicals) has been swamped with homophobic propaganda, with activists blaming homosexuals for HIV fatalities, pedophilia and bizarre national misfortune seen as ‘god’s wrath’.
